It is my joy to share with you today that Bishop John R. Schol has appointed Rev. Jonghwa Kim as the pastor of our congregation. Pastor Kim will begin his new responsibilities on July 1st of this year. As a United Methodist Church we are a part of an appointment system. Our congregation’s staff parish relations committee has met with the district superintendent to identify our congregation’s needs and the needed skills in a pastor. We have also met with Pastor Jonghwa Kim to better get to know his wife and him and to ask questions.
Pastor Kim started his pastoral ministry in April, 1999 and was ordained in South Korea, March, 2002, He began leading as a pastor in the United States in 2004. He served Emmanuel UMC in Oaklyn and Embury UMC in Collingswood from 2012 to 2015. And has served the current church, First Korean UMC of Cherry Hill as an associate pastor for five years since then. He enjoys God's wonderful and beautiful love and his dear family. His wife wife, Jihye (Chee-hay), and three children, two boys and a girl-from sophomore at Stockton University, to starting freshman in high school and then eight year old, Yubin, Yuchan, and Yuna. He also enjoys playing the guitar.
Our new pastor will work with us and the conference so that we continue to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Bishop Schol and the leaders of the Greater New Jersey Conference will work with us to continue to grow as a vital congregation. I know you will join the bishop, our new pastor and me in helping to make new disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
